# response box

Hi,
We want to do psychophysics experiments in which we want to accurately record reaction times (rapid RT so time precision is important).
I didn't find any comparison between response box on the web. It seems that the Response Time Box ([http://lobes.usc.edu/RTbox/)](http://lobes.usc.edu/RTbox/)) is supported by the PTB. I'm wondering if there is other alternative.
It would be nice if these alternative would be cheaper and/or more practical to use for participants (this one looks really old school).

I've had decent success with Xkeys. [http://www.piengineering.com/xkeys.php](http://www.piengineering.com/xkeys.php)
Specifically, I've used the foot pedal version as a "big button" response box. It's USB 1.1 device so while it works well with the KbQueue functions of PTB (Only seen it work in Windows and OSX, though it should work on Linux as well). It comes with software to map events to characters.

Note that given it's a foot pedal (well there are actually 3 buttons), the springs are pretty stiff. It's easy to open and replace with weaker springs or foam.
