Compatibility Issues Between PTB and MATLAB Versions

Hello everyone in the community!

I’m posting this request for help on behalf of a colleague—since he’s new to the community, his account is restricted from posting directly.

Recently, they’ve been trying to install PTB for psychophysics experiments. However, due to laboratory constraints, they can only use MATLAB 2018b on Linux. Every time they attempt to install PTB 3.0.22 by manually executing SetupPsychtoolbox, MATLAB crashes unexpectedly.

I’m wondering if anyone has successfully installed this combination (PTB 3.0.22 + MATLAB 2018b Linux), or if there’s an official statement confirming that this MATLAB version is incompatible with PTB 3.0.22?

Our registration statistics says that currently 11 machines are using PTB 3.0.22 under R2018b, all on Windows or macOS, none on Linux. At some point it were 41 machines. The assumption is that it should work, and there isn’t any known reason it shouldn’t. But due to our own financial constraints, I usually can only test on the very latest Matlab release, and sometimes one version back.

So more detailed info would be needed about the exact setup, printed error messages etc.
