Hi,
I am trying to run a collaborator’s Test script and I am getting this error when I run the script. This worked without errors when we ran the tests in the macOS but we had to transfer this to the ubuntu partition.
I installed the package psychtoolbox-3 from NeuroDebian repository.

Now when I run this the test script, I get the below error :

See the error saying drawtextplugin couldn’t be loaded, it gives instructions where to go for help. Try fixing that first.

But importantly, as i already told you,this is an ancient PTB, uograde to the latest version

It is unclear to me how you managed to install such an ancient year 2014 3.0.12 PTB from NeuroDebian on what seems to be a rather recent Linux distribution? Your previous retracted post also suggested something very weird going on with your installation. NeuroDebian has PTB 3.0.17 at the moment for all recent distributions. That outdated PTB may very well be the reason for the trouble. How exactly did you install it, on what Linux distribution? And which Matlab version?

Hi! I have the same issue with the latest PTB and matlab 2017b. I upgraded Ubuntu from 18.04 to 20-04. I followed all the recommendations but it still cannot find libptbdrawtext_ftgl64.so.1. I also checked the libraries freetype and fontconfig. Everything looks good but I cannot use DrawText. Do you have any idea to solve this?

You don’t say what you unsuccessfully tried.

Is the file there in the [PsychtoolboxRoot ‘/PsychBasic/PsychPlugins’] folder? If not, maybe retry the download in case something went wrong.

Did you sudo dpkg-reconfigure matlab-support according to our download/update instructions?

It is also possible that PTB 3.0.18 may no longer work correctly wirh R2017b, only the latest R2021b is tested and officially supported anymore. Because due to the continued absolutely disappointing lack of financial support by our users, we can not afford developing and testing on a range of Matlab versions anymore, so it is whatever Mathworks sponsors us, which at this time is R2021b only.

Any further help from myself will require paid priority support: help PsychPaidSupportAndServices. Ofc. if R2017b would be the reason why things stopped working then there ain’t anything we could do and you’d be permanently stuck on the unsupported / end-of-life PTB 3.0.17.

Thanks Mario! Yes, the file is there. Still, I’ve reinstalled ptb (followed by PsychLinuxConfiguration on matlab) but it didn’t make any difference. I did sudo dpkg-reconfigure matlab-support on terminal. I’ve also checked FreeType and FontConfig libraries to make sure that there was no issue about the libraries during the upgrade. I tried to update them but Ubuntu said everything is fine with them.

I tried to find another solution but it might not exist. So, I’ll update to R2021b and try again.
