Looking for software and some advice

Hi

I am a technologically challenged doctoral student with the department of psychology at UCLan, in the UK. To do my proposed research what I need is software that will play .avi, .mpeg, or other movie file on a PC and record participant responses to these files. In other words, the participant makes a judgment based on what he/she has seen, and the program records how fast the decision was made, and what the decision was, etc. Does anyone know if such software is commercially available, or even just available? Previously I have used a rudimentary program (in GFA 32) developed by of the technicians here in the department, but who is just about to retire and is unwilling to develop this further.

Would be most grateful for any info or suggestions
