dear emily and paolo
i just posted this summary in our bug list of the problem you both
reported with using the NVIDIA GeForce card at high priority.

Using the NVIDIA GeForce graphics card built into their PowerMac G4/733
computers, two users report (6/01 and 2/02) that the computers hang if
one tries to SetClut while priority is raised. This causes ScreenTest to
crash. Alas, we can't fix NVIDIA's driver. Paolo Martini said he was
using the GeForce2 MX card with the NVIDIA 1.1.1 driver; Emily Grossman
ran DescribeScreen(0), which reported "NVDA,NVMac (.Display_NV version
1.0)". We recommend PeekBlankingTest and WaitBlankingTest to document
this problem (included in the forthcoming PsychToolbox 2.5, or see forum
872). See forum messages 485, 867, 872. Apple has posted two updates for
the driver, 120038, 120106, but we don't know whether they address this
problem.
NOTE TO ALL: denis.pelli@... is my preferred email address. Please
use that address. My "verizon.net" address will go away soon, partly
because Verizon forces me to use that as my "From:" address. My current
email program won't allow me to designate a separate "Reply-to:" address.
