dear sabina
your bug report is still unresolved, because we can't replicate it here,
so i added it to our bug list. we get new machines every now and then, so
we'll address it when we can replicate it.

Sabina Wolfson asks (2/02):
QUESTION: When I run SCREEN 'Resolutions' I get back 2 resolutions at
120hz (640x480 and 800x600). However, with the little application
SwitchRes I can select 120hz at 1024x768. If I do so, and then run
'Resolutions' again (while still at 120hz at 1024x768 as set by
SwitchRes), 'Resolutions' now gives me 3 resolutions at 120hz (640x480
and 800x600 and 1024x768). Also, if I am running at 120hz 1024x768,
'ResolutionTest' shows the 120hz 1024x768 option. But if I am running at
some other resolution, 'ResolutionTest' does not show this option. I
would really like the program to be able to set the resolution of 120hz
at 1024x768 automatically! Is there some way to get at this resolution
from within the toolbox?
ANSWER: You're right in thinking that the answers (list of available
resolutions) ought to be consistent, independent of the current
resolution and of which program (SCREEN vs. SwitchRes) you ask. I have a
different graphics card on my computer and can't replicate this fault. I
believe that SCREEN and SwitchRes are simply passing on to you the
information they obtain from the Mac OS, so the discrepancy between them
is surprising. We'll try to fix it when we can replicate it. - denis.
NOTE TO ALL: denis.pelli@... is my preferred email address. Please
use that address. My "verizon.net" address will go away soon, partly
because Verizon forces me to use that as my "From:" address. My current
email program won't allow me to designate a separate "Reply-to:" address.
