We have written some code for interfacing to NIFTI files from within MATLAB. It requires the use of a mex file which wraps the NIFTI C-Library. We have compiled it for Linux and Mac OS. We could use a little help getting the Windows version working. Is there anyone on this list who has done this before? I'm partial to the gnumex mingw/cygwin solution but I'm open to other suggestions.

If you don't know how to do this, but know someone not on this mailing list who does, please have them contact me.

Thanks,
Souheil

Hi Souheil,

We also wrote a NIFTI mex wrapper, except built it for linux and
windows. You can get our code here:

http://white.stanford.edu/software/downloads/Anatomy_nightly.zip

Look in filters/nifti/readFileNifti.cpp for the command we used to build
the mex file. We have built it using both Visual C and the cygwin
compiler (using gnumex: http://gnumex.sourceforge.net/). Visual C is the
easiest to configure, as matlab can configure the build enviroment for
you. But our nifti wrapper code does build under gnumex. We've found
that selecting the 'cygwin-mingw linking' option when configuring gnumex
is the best route. The only tricky part was linking to zlib, but we've
already built that and included it in the download.

Feel free to contact me if you have any problems. I'd also be interested
in working to merge our efforts, if you like. (Does the world really
need two matlab-NIFTI wrappers?)

cheers,
bob
