Unique computer identifier

Hi,

Typing " screen('computer') " on one of my computers returns the
following:

ans =

macintosh: 1
windows: 0
emulating: ''
pci: 1
vm: ''
busHz: 66820000
hz: 334100000
fpu: ''
cache: ', L2 cache'
processor: 'G3'
system: 'Mac OS 9.1'
owner: 'Stéphane'
model: 'PowerMac G3/334'.

Unfortunately, none if this information is necessarily unique to any one
machine. This makes it somewhat more difficult to issue machine-specific
commands such as loading lookup-tables, changing monitor resolutions, or
saving data to a local directory.

So far, I've put machine-specific versions of a file called 'ThisComputer.m'
onto each of my computers. Perhaps future versions of PsychToolbox could tap
the 'Computer Name' field in the 'File Sharing' control panel.

Cheers,

Stéphane

good idea. i meant to do that originally but was unable to figure out how
to get it. but other programs do get that name so there must be a way.
i'm afraid it won't be soon, because Allen is focussing on Windows right
now, but if someone supplied a bit of C code that got the info, then it
would be relatively easy and might be squeezed in sooner.
