I am looking to recruit a neuroscientist/physiologist/computational biologist interested in studying the electrophysiology and circuit function of genetically identified and/or manipulated Retinal Ganglion Cells.
A postdoctoral fellow position is available in the Retinal Circuits Development and Genetics Unit of the National Eye Institute on the National Institutes of Health campus in Bethesda, Maryland, USA. The goal of our research is to understand how visual circuits develop and how they function. More specifically, we study the diversification of Retinal Ganglion Cells (RGC), the neurons that relay visual information from the eye to the brain. We are using genetic manipulations in mice in order to label RGC populations, describe their dendritic anatomy, axonal projections to the brain, physiological properties, and functions within the neuronal circuit. The successful candidate will participate in this general effort, with an emphasis on the analysis of development and function of RGC cell types. Experience in molecular or developmental biology, systems neuroscience, visual behavior or electrophysiology will be considered a plus, as the project might involve a combination of questions and approaches from these fields.
