Dear all,
I'm planing an audio-visual temporal order judgment (TOJ) experiment (subjects have to make a forced judgment about auditory stimulus comes first or visual stimulus comes first), and I'm thinking whether it is proper to use QUEST to determine the point of subjective simultaneity (PSS). My concern is, in temporal order judgment task, the 'intensity' is the inter-stimulus interval (ISI) between audio and visual stimuli, say, any value from -250 ms to 250 ms (negative interval indicates audio leading visual), which can not be transformed to the log contrast because the range is from negative to positive. In QuestDemo, it says 'The intensity scale is abstract, but usually we think of it as representing log contrast'. Does it mean it doesn't matter whether I take the values used in QUEST (i.e., tGuess and tTest) as a log contrast or not, I can just input the values of inter-stimulus interval to QUEST? Does anybody have this kind of experience?
Another question is: can MOBS be used to determine the PSS of the temporal order judgment task? One paper by Andrew J Anderson & Chris A Johnson (2006) 'Comparison of the ASA, MOBS, and ZEST threshold methods', says "Because it tends towards a 0.5 probability of seeing, MOBS cannot be used for two-alternative forced choice experimental paradigms but is restricted to yes-no paradigms." I don't really understand this. Can anybody give more explanations about this?
Any suggestions will be highly appreciated!
