User interface controls in psychtoolbox

I am new to PTB, and am just getting to grips with its functionality. As I understand it, standard MATLAB GUI controls are not useable within PTB.

Are there, however, alternatives that provide similar functionality? I am particularly interested in sliders and push buttons to allow users to select colours and to move between different images. This will accompany static stimuli, so would a standard MATLAB GUI be better suited to this purpose?
