Bootcamp and stereo mode on NVidia cards

Hi all,

We're looking at purchasing a new machine for use with a stereo
projector. We have a conflict between people who want to display their
stimuli using the PTB on a Mac and old-schoolers who do everything in C
under Windows. One possibility is to get a Mac with Bootcamp and a
Quadro FX 4500 for the stereo output, so that everyone can run their
favourite OS on the same machine.
Does anyone have experience with such a setup? How well does it work,
both under OS X and the PTB, and under Windows?

Thanks,

Simon Barthelmé
What kind of stereo projector? Frame-sequential stereo?
Or basically two projectors and polarized light?

PTB on both Windows and OS/X shouldn't have any
problem with dual display stereo. PTB on OS/X also
supports flip frame / frame sequential stereo on
any NVidia or ATI graphics card. Only for Windows
you'll need a more expensive QuadroFX 4500 instead
of a cheaper commodity card. Btw. The FX4500 is
outdated by todays standards, a previous generation
graphics card. Not a bad card, but if you buy one for
frame sequential stereo, you basically pay a Microsoft
tax just to be able to do on Windows what can be easily
done by any standard card on OS/X at a higher
performance. The only advantage of the FX4500 is
that it can do frame sequential stereo in a GUI window,
something seldomly needed for psychophysics.

E.g., a Geforce 8600 GTS card has more features and higher
performance for a much lower price.
