Matlab 5.2 compatible with 6.5?

Hi all.

Just received Matlab 6.5 for OS X. Before installing, I thought I'd
ask the list if anyone has any experiences to report with having both
6.5 and 5.2 on the same machine. Do they interfere with one another in
any way? I ask because I'm running some experiments right now in 5.2
and I'd rather not cause problems with them.

Thanks,
Charles.

That's good to hear.

Can you tell me more about this? I vaguely recall a previous mention
of problems with the license manager, but a quick search of the
archives didn't reveal anything.

Thanks,
Charles.
I think there's probably stuff back there in the archives, because many
people have been incredibly exasperated, particularly when installing v6.5.
For instance, even with a unix-savvy helper, the first time I tried to
install v6.5 on my desktop, it blew System X -- I mean it wouldn't boot;
there had to be conversations with Apple tech support; and I had to create a
brand new user to get things back together again!

Meanwhile, I still have trouble with the manager even when it's installed.
Sometimes v6.5 refuses to start up, and you have to manually (i.e., from a
unix window) begin the license manager. Sometimes you have to boot the
computer without being plugged in to the internet. It's weird. I haven't yet
thoroughly checked things out, but believe me, it can be a pain!
