" screen 'putImage' " need help

who can help me on the function:
SCREEN(windowPtr,'PutImage',imageArray,[rect],[copyMode])
I just don't know how to create imageArray. How is the imageArray related to
the image? what is the meaning of the value of the array. for
example,imageArray(3,3)=5, what is the meaning of 5?.
If anyone can provide the source code of screen function, it'll be highly
appreciated.

I have read the help file in matlab. but it doesn't make sense.
