GStreamer problem on Windows 7: SimpleMovieDemo crashes MATLAB

Hi,

I’ve been using Mac OS to present my experimental stimuli but I would like to run my PTB scripts on a Windows PC in the near future. I therefore installed Windows Bootcamp to test my code.

Unfortunately, SimpleMovieDemo doesn’t work yet. I tried GStreamer 1.4.3 and 1.4.1. None of them work. I made sure that all components were checked at “custom” install hoping that all codecs would be installed.

Every time I run SimpleMovieDemo or PlayMovieDemo, MATLAB crashes. See below for MATLAB's crash report.

What might be going wrong?

I have inherited an experiment and am unable to run it under Linux,
(Debian 7 with xfce desktop). PsychHID finds two devices (presumably
keyboard and mouse), but the unsageName of each is 'TBD'. If I change
the code below, 'Keyboard' -> 'TBD', and select either 1 or two, I
proceed to get the KbName('!') not recognized. Adding
KbName('UnifyKeyNames'); does not fix.

What is the proper way to get this done on Linux?

Michael, Michael! I'll have to talk some sense into you over a beer or stronger stuff this evening. Why would you switch from a bad OS to a worse OS when you already use a really good OS privately?

I think i know! You demonstrated bad taste, and the machine wants to punish you for it?

Other than that, if you search for a boring worldly explanation, it looks like the kind of compatibility bug a few people had occassionally between 64-Bit Matlab on Windows and GStreamer-0.10 on Windows is also present in GStreamer 1.0. At least one area where Windows shows consistent behaviour! In theory we now have at least one machine in my catchment area which would allow debugging and reporting the problem to upstream, now that we are on a officially supported GStreamer version. In practice i've had enough days of my life wasted on Windows and OSX nightmares for this year, so fixing any problems caused by running on non-Linux is a very low priority for at least the rest of 2014.
